Reconnecting Lee County implies a deep appreciation for the unique characteristics and the interests of people in each of Lee County's many communities. This mosaic makes Lee County an interesting place to live, work, and play --- a big reason why people choose to come here.
Some of our larger communities are listed below. Some are separate cities while others are governed by the Lee County Commission. Cities all have their own Comprehensive Plan and their own codes that govern land use and development. Reconnecting Lee County does not intend to focus on municipal policies; however, as we explore our target topics, we may suggest models from elsewhere that might be useful and suggest better ways for our diverse communities to work together to make a better Lee County.
City of Bonita Springs
City of Cape Coral
City of Fort Myers
Town of Ft. Myers Beach
City of Sanibel
Lehigh Acres
Estero
North Fort Myers
Alva
South Lee County
Pine Island
Do you have specific suggestions for viable future options to reconnecting the people in any of these communities with resources and opportunities that improve the quality of life in Lee County?
Lee Plan Reviews Begins Under EAR Process
Lee County is now completing the state-mandated, seven-year Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) of the County’s comprehensive plan, the Lee Plan. The Planning Division is partnering with a team of consultants to make the Lee Plan into a state-of-the-art planning document. To start the process, the county is hosting the required scoping meetings with key local and state agencies.
Planning staff have already met with representatives from local public safety, health groups and other local and state agencies. After the agency scoping meetings, planning staff and the consultant will begin an outreach process to the community at large. The purpose of these workshops is to identify the major issues that should be addressed in the EAR.
The goal is to update the current plan, which focused on suburban growth and development issues, into a 21st Century planning document that recognizes the importance of urban form while maintaining rural character. Anyone interested in the future of unincorporated Lee County is encouraged to participate.
